Please join Melovin Vino’s with Sabine Wellness & Katarina Permanent Makeup Artist on March 2nd.

Melovin Vino will offer wine by the glass or bottle while Sabine talks about her full wellness program and Katarina can provide example drawing’s for the permanent makeup. No worries, the makeup will wash off it is only to show how it would look on you. You can participate or just enquire about it and set up appointments with the professionals!

The event is open to all; men please don’t be shy… You can hang out in Melovin Vino’s bar and enjoy a nice glass of wine and talk with Sabine about massage, foot care etc..

Explore Melovin Vino’s finest selections of exclusive Spanish wines! Melovin Vino launches her Spanish wine bar every Tuesday night. We will be starting on 19 February 2013 from 1730 to 2200. This is a trial period; we will be taking recommendations to improve. We might be open more nights, just want to see where this takes us… ;-)

Melovin Vino’s new bar will be offering wine by the glass or bottle, and welcome you to bring in your own choice of food. That means, bring whatever you want – dinner, Tapas, or snacks!!! We will offer a very light appetizer dish and very exclusive Spanish wines giving you the opportunity to try by the glass before you purchase by the case or bottle. In the glass, the Unico shows with a yellow-greenish color. On closer inspection, the color looks very pale and shining with fine bubbles. On the nose, this Cava inspired by Mediterranean flavors of fruits such as apricot, apple or pear.In the background, reveal subtle notes of milk, toasted almonds and white flowers.


The Bodega (winery) Pago de Tharsys is a family business that dates back to the year 1808. It is located in the province of Valencia, on the east coast of Spain. The operation is still managed by the oenologist and managing director Vicente García Ana Suria. You look at twelve hectares, located up to 650 meters in height. The vines grow on limestone and sandy soils with little organic matter, which can penetrate the roots of the vines well. The warm, continental climate influenced by the Spanish east coast brings temperature fluctuations of up to 20 ° C between day and night with them – excellent conditions for optimum maturity stage.

The acreage of the bodega Pago de Tharsys belong to the DO appellation Utiel-Requena, in the famous Cava sparkling wines may be produced. Planted especially in the Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Bobal, Albariño and – as typical for Spain – Tempranillo. All these varieties have one thing in common: their grapes are always harvested at night. The reason lies in the low temperatures. At about 12 to 13 ° C the enzyme activity in the grapes remains to a minimum, so that all their organoleptic potential remains.

In this way, the complex, fruit-shaped and elegant wines from Pago de Tharsys inspire the experts – especially the Cava sparkling wines. The Brut Nature was elected in 2005 as the Enoforum in Madrid as the best Cava in Spain. In wine production by Pago de Tharsys; both traditional methods and the latest technology, but they never want to engage in the process as far as it would distort the natural flavor of the wine.

Cava, made by the Champagne method, is a very acceptable alternative to French champagne and, it should be said, much better value for money.

I’m sorry that I did not have a December wine of the month and wanted to offer this fantastic cava to help bring in the New Year!

Three Americans living in Germany with a passion for fine wine and food would like to invite you  to join us for an evening of sampling elegant red wines from esteemed Spanish wineries, exclusively distributed by Melanie Bristol of Melovin Vino and unique white German wines produced by J. Hicks, the only American wine producer in the wine region Rheingau, along with Chef Joshua Russo, private chef for a US Air Force General… to experience fine wines at historical Egert’s Mill in the renown wine village of Kiedrich!

We’ll be presenting a sparkling Cava wine, 3 Spanish red wines and 3 German white wines along with a 6 course meal!  This event is limited to 30 guests, so book as soon as possible.

The Wines!!  

Melanie Bristol of Melovin Vino is an independently Spanish wine business owner and distributor throughout Germany; who has traveled throughout Spain to various Bodegas to find those Spanish gems. She will be presenting the following exclusive Spanish wines (   1.  “Millesime Rose Brut Reserva” 2007, Requena Spain (dry Rose) – This Cava has 100% Garnacha grape and has also won the gold medal in 2012 from Concours Mondial Bruxelles.  A delightfully pale rose in colour with clean, zesty aromas with 24 months ageing.  Fruits of the forest notes combined with toffee of the yeast.  Always a favorite at my wine events for a nice bubbly starter!

2.  “Melovin Calduva” 2009, La Rioja Spain (dry red) – This wine is 100% Tempranillo and is Spain’s signature red grape, from over 15 year old vines, 4 months in American Oak.  Bodegas Aldonia process is done all by hand to ensure the best quality of grapes.  Rich in ripe fruits and fine tannins with a great balance & lingering finish, pure and fresh.

3.  “Ars Nova” 2005, Navarra Spain (dry red) – Blended wine with Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.  Fermented in Stainless steel vats then Concrete vats for min 20 months and transferred to French oak for 7 months.  Red cherry colour with violet tints, called a mountain wine.  Complex in the nose and palate, black & red wild fruit, blackberries, blueberries, liquorice, chocolate, thyme and mint.  Good notes of French oak, coffee and toasted hints; very expressive on palate, thick, elegant and a long finish.

4.  “Tabula” 2008, Ribera del Duero Spain (dry red) Premium Wine- 100% Tempranillo, over 60 year old vines and aged for 18 months in French oak. Although this is a young winery of 10 years; the wines are already internationally on everyone’s lips.  Prestigious awards in the international press attest to the excellence of Tabula reds.  Robert Parker, Wine Spectator, Decanter, and Jancis Robinson – they all rave about the noble, vivid, intense Tabula red wines from Ribera del Duero.  Deep dense, black-cherry color; ripe red berry fruit together with roasted coffee beans, cocoa and balsamic notes.  This is powerful on the palate with intense flavor and good balance of soft tannins with a lingering finish.

Jay Hicks of J. Hicks & Family vineyards will be presenting his unique German white wines from his esteemed Rauenthal vineyards. He is debuting his first season and all wines are produced solely by hand and is the only American wine producer in the Rheingau wine region (www.winery-hicks.com1. “Maximilian” 2011 Rauenthal Wülfen Kabinett Trocken (dry) – Maximilian has intense, complex flavours with nuances of citrus fruits papaya and melon and fresh apricot. It has a somewhat fuller body, but still perfectly suitable to drink with or without food and absolutely great for everyday or special occasions with a harmonious balance between the alcohol, sugar and acidity.

2. “Secundo” 2011 Rauenthaler Steinmächer Riesling Kabinett Feinherb (Half-Sweet) – Secundo has a body and structure with a lot of finesse and contains traits of pear and apricot flavours with a specially nice, spicy finish which comes from the minerals found in the “Steinmächer” domain soil. Additionally, this spicy finish accentuates flavours that balance the crispiness of this Riesling.

3. “Tertius” 2011 Rauenthal Wülfen Riesling Spätlese Mild (Sweet) – Limited to a run of 1000 bottles and crafted as a traditional mild Rheingau Spätlese,  the 2011 “Tertius” has an excellent light golden colour and aromas enhanced by attributes of ripe, fresh fruits such as pineapple and pear with hints of mango and melon touched with a fresh, lively texture.

The Chef!!  

Joshua Russo, a self professed food geek and cook, has been cooking for himself and friends since the age of 12. Recently he has turned his love and passion of food and cooking from a hobby into a career. He is a private chef in the Air Force for the 3rd Air Force commander and is responsible for all his meals and social functions. He has cooked for foreign dignitaries and US military leaders alike. His food, which is inspired by his family and his love of travel, is innovative and rustic.

First Course- Shaved Asparagus, Fennel and Arugula salad w/ lemon and shallot vinaigrette

Second Course- Trio of pan seared scallops w fried spinach and parmesan crisp in a saffron broth

Fourth Course- Braised short ribs w an artichoke and sun dried tomato risotto and glazed baby carrots

October Wine Of The Month

Fall is in the air, which should bring out the wino in everyone!  ;-)

October is the month of Halloween, pumpkins and beautiful fall colors, it easily warms the heart.  With all the wonderful, autumn colors and freshness in the air, autumn always makes me feel sentimental. This influenced my decision choosing my wine of the month, which matches perfectly with fall dishes!

Castilla Rueda is a wine region traditionally renowned for fruity and elegant white wines and hearty, opulent Burgundian styles. The visionary, Javier Zaccagnini in collaboration with the organic wine producer Ismael Gozalo produce Ossian, a wine produced from a varietal Verdejo grape grown on very old vines(100-160 years), non-grafted root-stock at a dizzying 850 meters above sea-level.

Oaked in specially selected French barriques by the Cellar Master, Pierre Mille (who previously worked Romanée-Conti) manages to marry the freshness of the Verdejo grapes with the spiciness of the French oak, guaranteeing success…thereby, elegance inter-twines with abundance for a white wine in a totally new dimension!

Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar, Nov/Oct 11 – Josh Raynolds – Ossian 2009 – 92 points (100% verdejo, from vines reportedly between 160 and 180 years of age): Bright gold. Pungent citrus and pear skin aromas, complicated by exotic melon honey and floral nuances. Concentrated, sappy and fresh, with nervy acidity buffered by a honeyed note and a almost velvety texture. Finishes deep and very long, with a lively citrus zest character and lingering spiciness.

September Wine of The Month

Dear wine lovers,

I’m sure you have also noticed that summer has almost passed, and the sun in the evenings leave us earlier.  During this time, I’m enjoying the last rays of sun and especially get outdoors while we still have a little sunshine.  My wine tip for September is the perfect companion for a nice evening preferably outdoors while the weather permits…Salia, my end of summer companion, after a little ventilation and warming, has fruity, spicy and herb attributes with a silky finish.

Victor de la Serna, Spain’s top wine expert has taken to a little known wine region “Manchuela”, located 140km southeast of Madrid. It is in this region he built “Finca Sandoval” a small but robust winery, on 10 hectares and produces “Salia”, the “little brother” wine of his legendary “Finca Sandoval”…the wine named after his winery.

“Salia”, is a blend of 50% Syrah, 38% Grenache Tintorera and 12% Garnacha tinta berries. Syrah berries, originally from the Rhone valley, are (in my opinion) unique and harmonize extremely well with Grenache and Garnacha.  Even though “Salia” is the “little brother” of “Finca Sandoval”, this wine, due to the balance of this cave’ has its very own, unique profile.

Victor stored this wine for 11 months in used French & California barriques, without fining or filtration, allowing more time to mature before bottling.

The end result is an ideal type of central Spanish wine, receiving 90 points in the Wine Advocate. Best of all, you don’t have to drink this wine in September, but can confidently keep and mature 2-3 summers later.

Try it, I assure you that it will not disappoint!

Fragrance:  Complex fruit notes of red berries and cherries, herbs and winter spice flavors.

Taste:  Fruity juicy opener, full bodied, fine tannins and spicy reverberation
